GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Flood waters in the Grand Rapids area are slowly beginning to recede, but the Grand River is still well over its banks in many places, making life difficult for people and businesses.
Reports indicate 1,000 people remain displaced from apartments and condos in the Plaza Towers, and the neighboring Courtyard Marriott is still closed.
Crews are pumping out thousands of gallons of water, but they're competing with the water level outside.
They have to keep up the pace, or the pressure from the river against the buildings could be damaging.
Power to the buildings has been shut off for safety reasons, and there's no telling when people will be able to get back inside their homes.
