PORTAGE, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The community is invited to a discussion Saturday about signs in Portage.
City leaders are looking for input. If you drive up and down Westnedge you'll notice all kinds of signs for every business in Portage.
Now city leaders want to know what you think of those advertisements and what you want for the future of the city.
Saturday morning they are holding a unique community forum to talk about signs in the city and what changes could be made to the regulations.
Portage is hoping that business owners, community members and even shoppers will show up to talk about what they want to see.
"Because we are a large retail part of southwest Michigan there are more people talking about signs. And with the activity we're seeing on Westnedge with new stores coming and going they need to have a change in the signs and more signs that they have an opinion whether or not we're being too restrictive, not restrictive enough," said Portage Mayor Pete Strazdas.
The forum is from 8:00 a.m. until noon. Registration is not required, but city leaders say it's a good idea.
Once they get all the public input the sign committee will present a plan to the city council with in the next two months.
