KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The West Michigan community came together Saturday afternoon in Kalamazoo to remember a fallen firefighter.

A visitation was held for 22-year-old Nate Fruin at Life Story Funeral Homes on Stadium Drive in Kalamazoo Saturday afternoon.

His funeral is scheduled for Monday at 1:30 p.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Portage.

The firefighter from Mattawan went into cardiac arrest last week while on his way to a fire in Van Buren County.

The Patriot Guard also showed up to honor the 22-year-old.

Those close to him say that Fruin, a five-year veteran of the Mattawan Fire Department was always known to help others.
