KENTWOOD, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A member of the East Kentwood High School track team is behind bars, accused of forcing a sex act on a female teammate.
The Kent County Sheriff's office says 17-year-old Jaylen Anthony Young, a member of the track team, has admitted to forcibly sexually assaulting a member of the women's track team.
According to court documents detectives on the case say Young confessed that last month after a track practice he led the alleged 16-year-old victim to a secluded room in the school and committed the assault.
The victim's grandmother reported what happened to a coach at the school and told him she had contacted the police.
"This victim did exactly what we would have hoped they would do, contacted in this case a family member, an adult, a school official or teacher or someone who could help them through this and call police,"
says Kent County Undersheriff Jon Hess.
On Monday Young was arrested and later charged with two counts of third degree criminal sexual conduct.
At East Kentwood there was a staff meeting Tuesday to update teachers on the incident. The district says it's doing everything it can for the victim and her family.
And deputies say they are investigating other sexual assaults by Young on the same alleged victim in the past, One was reported to police last year and deputies say there may be another that was not reported, both also allegedly happened in the school building but at the time Young was a juvenile.
"We believe there was one that was unreported, one a year or so ago, but as far as them having a relationship we're not aware of that,"
The Kentwood school district says it has not decided on Young's status as student at the school.
As of Wednesday night Young was still in the Kent County Jail.
