NEWSCHANNEL 3 – You can help people battling AIDS and HIV just by going out to eat on Thursday.
Kalamazoo is one of 50 cities across the country participating in Dine Out For Life.
From breakfast, lunch and dinner to coffee and even chocolates, there are all sorts of options for restaurant-goers.
Around 35 restaurants in West Michigan are joining together to support the international effort.
The participating restaurants in Kalamazoo, Battle Creek, Paw Paw, Plainwell and Three Rivers will donate 25-percent or more of their sales to CARES, a local AIDS and HIV support organization.
That money stays right here in West Michigan to help people in need.
"Treatment for HIV works really well. Modern science has really helped people living with HIV to live happy healthy lives,” says Dave Watt of Kalamazoo CARES. “But getting access to that treatment is what we really need to help people do."
CARES hopes to bring in more than 50-thousand dollars through the day-long fundraiser on Thursday.
