Expect more specific weather warnings from NWS

(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - As we get deeper into severe weather season you can expect more specific weather warnings.
That's because the National Weather Service is testing a new system in several states, including right here in Michigan.
In the future there will be a tiered warning system. It will be similar to what is currently used and will indicate when a tornado is possible based on radar and conditions.
But when there is evidence of a large or dangerous tornado it will include more specific language of the potential hazards, including loss of life and damage to property.
The National Weather Service is hoping to take advantage of the increase in smartphone and mobile devices to deliver more detailed warnings in severe weather situations.
