UTAH (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A man with a criminal record in Kalamazoo County is behind bars in Utah Wednesday morning, accused of breaking into several cabins.
Police say Troy Knapp is a survivalist who has been on the run for five years, living in the mountains and living off the land that entire time.
Investigators say over the course of that five years Knapp broke into dozens of cabins during that time, stealing supplies and weapons and even shooting up some of those homes.
Authorities say he never had any direct confrontations with those homeowners.
As a teenager in Kalamazoo County Knapp was convicted of breaking and entering, passing bad checks and fleeing from police.
Knapp is being held in Utah on multiple burglary and weapons charges.
