KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Kalamazoo Public Safety officers need to do more investigation before prosecutors move forward with a deadly fire case.
Chief Assistant Prosecutor Carrie Klein told Newschannel 3 Wednesday that the prosecutor's office has declined to file charges against Jonetta Woods. Police were requesting second-degree child abuse charges against the 26-year-old mother.
Investigators say her four young children were left home alone at their home in Interfaith Apartments February 18. Woods' 3-year-old twins and 1-year-old daughter died when a fire broke out. Her 4-year-old daughter survived and is now in the custody of Woods' sister.
Woods faces a May 14 trial in family court related to the children being left alone in the apartment.
