Health agency warns of possible food inspector scam

(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency is warning local eateries about a fake food inspector scam making the rounds.
According to a statement from the agency, local restaurant owners are reporting that individuals claiming to be from a health department contacted them requesting to schedule an inspection.
The agency says this is quite out of the ordinary, as inspections are typically unannounced to ensure proper food safety measures are being followed at all times.
As a result, inspectors would rarely schedule visits with advance notification of the owners.
If any food establishments believe they have been contacted by a possible scammer, they are urged to contact their local law enforcement agency.
