Hopkins underwater after severe flooding

HOPKINS, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - County by county across West Michigan, Newschannel 3 is covering every angle of the impact of all this rain.
Just 5 days ago, resident Mark Collins and his family moved into their home, but Thursday morning, he woke up to 14 inches of water in the house.
"I don't know how we got this much water in a few hours of time," Collins said.
For now, the Red Cross is helping the family stay in a hotel, but after that, Collins says he's not sure.
"I don't give up, but when it comes to this kind of stuff right here, it does make you feel down and out," Collins admitted.
Thursday, though, the whole town battled the water together, filling sandbags and fording the flood to help out.
As for Collins, he says his family lost more than they could save, and as rain continues to fall, the Red Cross worries that more families may soon be in the same position.
For now, though, Collins and his family are picking up the pieces and looking forward.
"There's nothing you can really do other than move on and start over again," he said.
He also adds that the new start will likely be on higher ground.
