KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – There will once again be a police officer stationed at Kalamazoo Central High School.

Kalamazoo Township Police Chief Tim Bourgeois tells Newschannel 3 that the Kalamazoo Township Police Department will be providing an officer to Kalamazoo Central starting in September of 2013.

Bourgeois says that there had previously been a township officer stationed at the school from 2003 to the 2008-2009 school year when the position was cut by budget issues.

Chief Bourgeois says the cost of putting the officer in the school is roughly $75,000 for a year and that the school district and Kalamazoo Township will share that cost.

Chief Bourgeois says that the idea of putting an officer back into Kalamazoo Central has been discussed off and on through the years, but now they are able to make it happen.

Bourgeois says that in addition to any law enforcement duties, the officer will work on building good, strong relationships with students and staff and act as a community policing officer.
