HOLLAND, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A lakeshore community is rallying support for troops serving in Afghanistan.

After weeks of collecting items, the Holland Police Department is packaging the goods to send overseas.

It all started when a Holland military mom was contacted by a Chaplin who served with her son in 2010.

He wanted the community to provide comforts from home, not issued by the Army.

Specifically, toiletries like deodorant, toothbrushes, and toothpaste.

Those items will soon be on their way to the men and women serving our country, thanks to the lakeshore community.
