Missing man
BIG RAPIDS, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The Big Rapids Department of Public Safety announced late Thursday night that they have a lead in the disappearance of Fred Byrne.

Officers say that Fred Byrne was last seen leaving his mother's home in Holland Township around 3:00pm on Tuesday.

Byrne mentioned that he intended to stop at Rivertown Crossing Mall in Grandville on his way home to Big Rapids. He hasn't been seen since.

At around 6:00 p.m. Thursday night, Big Rapids authorities were informed that Byrne's 2005 Chevy Malibu was found just outside the Mark Twain National Forest in Van Buren, Missouri.

The vehicle was unlocked, with the keys in the center console, and Byrne's wallet was found on the rear floorboard.

A search was initiated, but due to the rapidly evaporating daylight, it was soon called off.

A more thorough search is expected on Friday.

Byrne is described as a white male, 49 years old, 6'3” tall, 290 pounds and has blond hair and blue eyes.

Police say that the fact that he hasn't contacted friends or family is extremely out of character for him.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
