MARCELLUS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A South Haven man is in critical condition after he flipped his motorcycle into a ditch.

Cass County deputies responded to the accident Thursday night just before 8:00 on M-40 just north of Dutch Settlement in Marcellus Township.

71-year-old Jerry Hartsfield was heading north on M-40 when he lost control of his motorcycle, leaving the road.

The motorcycle then flipped into a ditch.

Hartsfield was taken by medical helicopter to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo.

Deputies say Hartsfield was not wearing a helmet and alcohol may be a factor.

The crash is under investigation.
