KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - While the debate over gun control continues in Washington D.C., the faith community in Kalamazoo sent its own statement to lawmakers.

Members of the Northside Ministerial Alliance called a meeting Tuesday morning.

They're putting together a plan to urge lawmakers to adopt laws that will protect the community.

The faith leaders say they don't want Kalamazoo to be the scene of the next mass shooting tragedy, so it's necessary for them to make a statement on the issue.

They want local, state, and federal lawmakers to adopt sensible gun laws that will, at least, reduce the amount of gun violence in the community.

The faith leaders plan to follow Tuesday's call for action with letters, phone calls, and visits to make sure lawmakers are working to pass what they call sensible gun control laws.
