MATTAWAN, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Michigan State police crime lab is inside the Antwerp Township Hall, and activity center right now, trying to figure out who shot and killed a man at a party this morning.

They are collecting evidence and conducting interviews with witnesses.

The Mattawan Chief of Police say there was a party at the activity center last night into the early hours of Sunday morning.

A fight broke out and during the course of the fight one male was shot and killed around 1:45 a.m.

Another person was taken to the hospital with injuries not from a gunshot.

At this time police do not have any suspects in custody and do not know if the victim and shooter knew each other.

They tell us the shooting happened inside a large room inside the hall where there was music and dancing.

Police confirm that a group had rented out the hall for the evening but are not giving details.

We found a flyer on Facebook with details of a party called "Black Excellence Pt. II." It was an 18 and up party from 10 p.m. until 2 a.m. at the activity center Saturday night.

Once again police are not saying whether that was the party where the shooting happened.

Police have not released the name of either victims yet.

The Mattawan Police Chief told Newschannel 3, that they have not had a deadly shooting in Mattawan since 2005.

We will continue to keep you updated as this story develops.
