MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - It's the one thing the Janssen family has been praying for--Arthur Payne is now behind bars.
Michigan City Police arrested Payne along the 100 block of South Karwick Street in Michigan City, Indiana, just after noon on Wednesday.
For Amanda Janssen, the memory of what happened to her sister is still fresh.
Police say the 41-year-old Payne used his skills as a trained cage fighter and boxer to severely beat Stephanie Janssen, nearly killing her.
"We dedicated most of our detective staff to it since the incident just occurred; they've been working it nonstop," said Kalamazoo County Undersheriff Paul Matyas. "That type of person needs to be off the streets and into the justice system as quickly as possible."
Now, Payne is exactly where the Janssen family wants him.
"We need to know that Stephanie is safe and her babies are safe, and she'll never have to worry about this again," said Stephanie's sister Amanda Janssen.
While there's a long road ahead for Stephanie, who is still in the hospital, Amanda says the arrest is a victory.
