GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Police are investigating after an explosion blasts a hole in a Grand Rapids apartment building.

It happened Saturday afternoon on Union Ave. NE near Fountain St. Firefighters say the explosion is suspicious because people were seen running from the building, leaving in a nearby car.

Crews contained the fire to one unit of the building, a house converted into seven apartments. The Red Cross is helping residents of the building find shelter for the night after gas and electricity had to be shut off.
