ALLEGAN COUNTY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Michigan State Police investigators are on the scene of a homicide investigation in Allegan County.

The incident occurred before 1:00 p.m., in the 3000 block of 10th Street, south of Wayland.

According to State Police, dispatchers received a call just after 12:45 p.m. of an assault in progress.

When troopers from the Wayland Post arrived, along with Wayland City Police and Allegan County Sheriff's deputies, they noticed an individual on the roof, apparently attempting to flee the scene.

The suspect was quickly secured and taken into custody.

In the home, police found two victims--one on the main level, identified only as the suspect's grandmother, with a severe cut to her neck, and a second, who was found dead in the lower level of the house.

The deceased victim was identified as the suspect's 21-year-old cousin.

Police believe the person in custody to be responsible for both the assault and homicide.

They add that he had also apparently stabbed himself several times as well.

State Police say names of both victims and suspect are being withheld, pending proper notifications.
