COVERT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Despite numerous shutdowns, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission says the Palisades Nuclear Power Plant in Van Buren County operated safely in 2012.
The agency downgraded the plant's status last year because of several safety violations in 2011.
Now, inspectors say the problems have been cleared, but two inspectors have been assigned to the plant to make sure improvements continue.
NRC staff members will discuss their assessment of the plant's performance during a public meeting on Tuesday in South Haven.
Also attending will be representatives of New Orleans-based Entergy Corporation, which owns the plant in Covert Township.
