KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - At this hour, 8 hospitals in Boston are treating nearly 140 patients, with injuries ranging from cuts and bruises to amputations.
The American Red Cross sent more than 100 additional blood units to the city.
They're encouraging blood donations to help keep up with demand.
We spoke with a local emergency room doctor to get a sense of what it's like for first responders, in the aftermath of a disaster of this magnitude.
"In the emergency department, we're used to chaos," said Dr. Rashmi Kothari, with the Borgess Research Institute. "But this is definitely a different level of chaos."
Many hospitals do continuous training to prepare for scenarios like these, so that they're ready when disaster strikes.
