(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Police in Los Angeles, New York City, London and other cities worldwide are beefing up security.
The Boston Police Commissioner is urging people to stay indoors and not gather in large groups.
Newschannel 3 spoke with a local security expert about how events like the Boston Marathon could be considered a prime target for a terrorist attack.
“It's a fantasy for a terrorist because you have a large scale event that has a lot of public attention a lot of media coverage and then there's no way to properly secure it,” said Larry Johnson, Director of Security for GRPS.
Experts say it's more important for us to be able to quickly respond to any emergency rather than to focus on preventing it.
A terrorism expert from GVSU we spoke with says images of panic broadcast around the world is exactly what the terrorists want and we need to put these types of events into perspective to try and fight the attacks.
