DETROIT (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A court hearing in Detroit could overturn Michigan's ban on gay-marriage.

A lesbian couple sued after the state would not allow them to adopt each other's children.

But then a federal judge allowed them not only to challenge the state's ban on adoption, but also the ban on same-sex marriage.

The judge could strike down the gay marriage ban if he finds it unconstitutional.

Experts say that could create legal chaos on this issue.
