TALLMADGE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - An Ottawa County teenager is behind bars after investigators say he shot a friend in the face during a game of russian roulette.

18-year-old Richard Usher has been charged with attempted manslaughter and felony firearm charges after police say he and friends were horsing around with a 22-caliber handgun.

It happened last night in the 3900 block of Leonard Street in Ottawa County.

The victim, 16-year-old Brandon Kuiper, is in critical condition at Spectrum Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.

There's an outpouring of love and support for Kuiper online. "He was an amazing person, a genuine of the most trustworthy people I have ever met...he put others before himself and didn't care what other people thought about him," reads one Facebook post.

We stopped by Usher's home where police say the shooting happened.
Usher is in custody but his family made it clear they didn't want us there.

A family friend told us he wasn't surprised to hear what happened, saying Usher likes to play with and is irresponsible with guns.

Less than two months ago, Usher posted a photo of a gun to his Facebook page, calling it a "sweet bundle of death."

Ottawa County investigators say there were four other males in the house at the time of the shooting. They were between 17 and 19 years old and were not injured.

We're told if Kuiper dies, the charge will be amended.Victim critical after Ottawa Co. shooting, charges issued
