NCAA tournament continues

Updated: Friday, March 22 2013, 10:36 AM EDT
(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The NCAA Tournament continues Friday after several great finishes on day one.

The Spartans are moving on to the second round after they took care of Valparaiso.

MSU dominated the first half nearly doubling Valpo's score at halftime.

State then held on for the 65-54 victory.

Derrick Nix was huge for the Spartans with 23 points and 15 rebounds.

MSU will now play Memphis Saturday.

The Wolverines are also moving on in the tourney despite an off-night for star point guard Tre Burke. He was held to single digits in points for the first time this season.

Michigan still beat South Dakota State by 15 thanks to big games from freshmen Glenn Robinson III and Mitch McGary. Tim Hardaway Junior also scored 21 points.

They'll now take on VCU in the next round.

The big upset of the day happened late Thursday night. 14-seed Harvard knocked off three-seed New Mexico.

This was Harvard's first NCAA tournament win ever.

The Crimson will play Arizona in the round of 32.

Sports Director Ed Kengerski will have more on Michigan and Michigan State's big wins coming up in our next half hour.

We also want to remind you no noon newscast again Friday because of tournament coverage.
