Broncos win Kalamazoo Clash

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

Western Michigan defeated next door neighbor Kalamazoo College 57-37 Thursday night in an exhibition basketball game at the Broncos University Arena.  David Kool (Grand Rapids) and Martelle McLemore led WMU with 15 points each, while Derek Drews and freshman Flenard Whitfield chipped in with eight apiece.  Whitfield led the way on the glass with nine rebounds.

Despite leading 33-20 at the half and maintaining a double digit lead the rest of the way, K-College never let the Broncos run away as most of the crowd of 2,236 expected.  The Hornets, who struggled shooting against the much taller Broncos, were led by Nate Orozco with eight points each on the score sheet.  Turnovers were a problem for both cllubs.  "K" gave it way 20 times.  The Broncos 17.

WMU opens it's regular season November 14th in Charleston, South Carolina against Texas Christian.

Kalamazoo opens November 21st at Manchester College (IN).
