Candlestick Park in San Francisco to be torn down

Updated: Monday, August 11, 2014

SAN FRANCISCO (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Some 30,000 fans were on hand to see some legendary 49ers like Joe Montana take the field for the last-time at Candlestick Park Sunday night.

"We have a lot of great memories in here. And just one of those things, we were able to provide a little bit more fun for the crowd," said Joe Montana.

After 54-years, the San Francisco stadium is closing.

It's set to demolished to make room for a new entertainment district.

On Thursday, Paul McCartney will take the stage for Candlestick's final event.

Candlestick was also where the Beatles played their last show back in 1966.
