Despite loss, Growlers 'selfie' jerseys a hit story image

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The Kalamazoo Growlers may have suffered an extra-inning defeat at Homer-Stryker Field Thursday night, but the team was a big winner on social media and the Internet in general thanks to their innovative and wildly popular selfie jerseys.

The Growlers invited fans earlier this year to send in selfies, and by mid-March, the team had already received over 500 submissions.

About 300 of those selfies were used to create a collage or mosaic effect on Thursday night's jerseys.

The jerseys not only blew up on Twitter, including a tweet from ESPN Business Reporter Darren Rovell, but were also mentioned on a number of popular sports websites, including MLB.com, SBNation, and Bleacher Report.
