Michigan, Notre Dame gear up for last match-up for some time

Updated: Tuesday, September 2, 2014

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Michigan-Notre Dame week seems to have a unique feel this season.

That may be because this could be the last time the two storied programs meet for a long, long time.

Their series is ending after 2014 due to changing priorities. Notre Dame's scheduling needs will shift with a move to the ACC and contractual obligations that come with it, whie Michigan and the Big Ten will switch to a 9-game conference schedule in 2016, lessening non-conference opportunities.

Both teams won big last weekend, as U-of-M exorcised the demons of Appalacian State, crushing the Mountaineers 52-14, with quarterback Devin Garder tossing three times as many touchdowns (3) as incompletions (1).

The Irish will certainly be a step up in competition for the maize and blue, and vice versa, as Notre Dame is coming off a 48-17 drubbing of Rice.
