DETROIT (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Score one for the Tigers in their three game series with the New York Yankees.

The series is huge for both teams, who are battling for the final American League wild card spot.

Detroit rode pitcher Rick Porcello and an opportunistic offense to a 5-2 victory Tuesday night.

The Tigers remain a half-game behind Seattle for the final postseason berth.

The Yankees remain 3.5 games back.

In late August, New York is in the thick of the race--a place to which Kalamazoo standout Derek Jeter has become accustomed during his nearly two decade-long career.
