CALIFORNIA (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - University of Southern California Cornerback Josh Shaw has been suspended from the Trojans football team.

Shaw admitted he lied about injuring himself by jumping off a balcony to save his nephew from drowning.

Shaw has admitted to school officials the story was a quote... "complete fabrication."

He is suspended indefinitely from all team activities.

Police investigating say witnesses told them a man fitting Shaw's description jumped from a balcony.

Shaw's attorney says he did fall from a balcony, but would not go into detail.

"I am saying Shaw made a mistake by not describing what actually happened," said the attorney.

Meantime, USC Coach Steve Sarkisian says the Trojans are "extremely disappointed," but hopes the school and team can accept his apology and move on.

Shaw is a fifth-year senior, a team captain and a key starter in USC's defensive secondary.
