Michigan beat Northeastern 76-56 Wednesday to win the Ann Arbor
regional of the Coaches vs. Cancer tournament. Michigan (2-0) will
play the winner of the UCLA regional in the semifinals next week at
Madison Square Garden.
DeShawn Sims added 19 points for Michigan, which outshot
Northeastern 54 percent to 29 percent.
Manny Adako led the Huskies (1-1) with 16 points and Matt
Janning added 14.
Both offenses struggled in the first half, including one
five-minute stretch where each team managed just two points. Harris
and Merritt combined for 16 points in the half to help Michigan
take a 29-23 lead as the Huskies shot just 29 percent.
The Wolverines, who made their first 24 free throws, increased
their lead to 13 with a 10-2 run early in the second half.
Northeastern was never able to make a serious run.
