ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) - The University of Michigan Athletic Department is giving loads of Nike-branded leftovers to veterans, soldiers and Iraqis.
The school last year signed an 8-year contract with Adidas to outfit its sports teams, ending a relationship with Nike, whose iconic swoosh logo couldn't be missed on jersey and shoes the Wolverines wore for years.
The Ann Arbor News reports that in recent days Nike-branded Michigan apparel in three semi trucks and several storage containers was sorted at a warehouse in Washtenaw County's Scio Township.
The gear includes football jerseys, T-shirts, gloves, pants, coats and athletic shoes. Some is destined for veterans facilities across the state. Some soccer shoes are being shipped to Iraq for soldiers and Iraqis who play together.
