Ordonez could be first Tiger batting champion in 46 years
Comments 0 | Recommend 0DETROIT (AP) - Magglio Ordonez has a chance to do something no Detroit Tiger has done in almost a half-century.
He's batting -353, tied with two-time AL batting champion Ichiro Suzuki.
The last Tiger to win the title championship was the late Norman Cash, who hit -361 in 1961.
Ordonez also leads the league with 49 doubles, is second in RBIs with 132 and is second in hits with 201.
Fellow Detroit outfielder Curtis Granderson leads the majors with 22 triples. That's already the most by any player since Cleveland's Dale Mitchell had 23 in 1949.
