Nike is telling stores 'don't do it!'
(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Nike is setting up new rules for retailers after some dangerous situations at stores.
According to a company memo the world's largest sportswear maker says stores can no longer presell or take reservations for new shoes.
Retailers will also have to give up midnight releases which have lead to some customers camping out and stampedes at the stores, like one at a North Carolina mall at the release of Lebron James Galaxy 9 shoes.
The Nike memo says the measures are necessary to secure safety at the stores for employee's and consumers.
In the meantime, Nike is preparing to release the most expensive sneaker on the market. The shoes are called the Lebron X.
The shoes are expected to retail at $315 a pair. They're equipped with sensors that measure how high the wearer can jump.
Nike says basketball shoe prices in general are up from last year, citing an increase in materials like cotton which are getting passed on to the consumer.
