LG Chem to Start Battery Production at Holland Plant
HOLLAND, Mich (Newschannel 3) - LG Chem has announced they will start production of automotive lithium-ion battery cells in July at the Holland Michigan plant once it has successfully completed the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) and gained customer approval.
According to a release from the company test runs have already started at the facility. LGCMI anticipates shipping product by the end of this summer. The plant initially will manufacture batteries for the Chevrolet Volt. The number of batteries produced is dependent on the electric vehicle market. The company is also working to procure additional programs for future production.
You might recall the company fell under scrutiny for paying employees to volunteer and show up to work with nothing to do.
In 2009 President Barak Obama came to Holland to celebrate the ground breaking bringing with him hundreds of thousands of dollars in stimulus money.
