Police: Mother catches 11-year-old trying to abduct stepson
GEORGETOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – Deputies in Ottawa County say a 6-year-old boy was almost abducted by another child Wednesday.
It happened around 5:00 p.m. in Georgetown Township.
A mother noticed that her six-year-old stepson was no longer in the front yard of their home and went to investigate. While looking for the child she spoke with a bus driver who said that they had seen two kids nearby.
The mother found her stepson in the clutches of an 11-year-old boy several blocks away.
Lt. Bennett with the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office says that the woman had to physically remove her stepson from the hands of the 11-year-old boy. Her stepson was uninjured but his clothes were torn in the incident.
Lt. Bennett says that the children knew each other from school, but were not friends. He says that the boy used a ruse or some other trick to get the boy out of the yard before he grabbed him.
The 11-year-old boy is known to police and is currently in a juvenile detention center for attempted unlawful imprisonment. He should have a hearing on the incident within the next two weeks.
