Allegan promotes buying local
ALLEGAN, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – The City of Allegan is putting out a call for some talented people to promote community growth.
They just launched a new campaign called Positively Allegan, hoping to draw in visitors and promote shopping locally, but first they’ll need a logo and they are looking for help creating it.
Artists at Baker Allegan Studios are hard at work making hand-woven goods to be sold at a store that sells only Michigan goods.
“We have a lot of customers that are local that come in,” said Debbie Leverence of Baker Allegan Studios, “and when it comes to buying presents they want things from Allegan artists.”
Baker Allegan Studios is just one of several businesses in downtown Allegan that are promoting buying local.
“There is a niche for small towns and Allegan is the place,” said Marcia Wager, owner of The Grill House.
Now local leaders are hoping to draw more and more business to Allegan, kicking off a new Positively Allegan campaign.
“We want people to know we’re not this quiet town, there are a lot of people with a lot of energy moving this forward,” said Leverence.
As it launches, the program is looking for a logo. To do that they are holding a contest, offering up a $250 prize and showcasing the winner’s artwork around town.
“We’re looking for something fun that says, ‘Yes Allegan,’” said Leverence. “When you have something to identify with you can put it on t-shirts, on windows and in businesses, you can spread it.”
Leaders in Allegan hope highlighting the good that is being done in the community will breathe new life into downtown Allegan.
