Washington man arrested after announcing wife's murder to station

WASHINGTON (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A Washington state man is behind bars Friday morning after calling a television station and telling them he killed his wife.

Police say Tony James Barrett called a Seattle station during the newscast because he wanted them to post the information on Facebook because he didn't have an account.

The station didn't post the story, but they did call police.

Officers later found the victim's body in a motel room in Tacoma.

Police eventually caught up with Barrett, who lead them on a high speed chase. They stopped the car using stopsticks, but then they say Barrett charged at them.

"Came out with a crowbar, went after the officers. It took the canine unit to fight him and take him down and he tried to hurt the canine unit," said one officer.

Court records show Barrett was charged with attacking his wife in 2007, holding a pillow over her face until she nearly suffocated.

He spent one-day in jail and two years on probation.

He was ordered not to have any "hostile contact" with Sara Barrett for five years.

That order expired three weeks ago.
