IRS has almost one billion dollars in unclaimed taxes
WASHINGTON, D.C. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The IRS is sitting on nearly a billion dollars in unclaimed tax refunds and some of that money could be yours.
The agency says nearly a million people didn't file their tax returns for 2009 and that's resulted in $917-million in unclaimed refunds.
That's an average of nearly a thousand bucks per person, but time is running out to claim that money.
Those 2009 tax returns must be submitted by April 15th.
If you miss that deadline your money will be handed over to the U.S. Treasury.
