Teacher under investigation in Marshall
MARSHALL, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – Newschannel 3’s I-Team has uncovered a criminal sexual conduct investigation involving a local teacher.
Calhoun County detectives have confirmed that a male teacher at Marshall Academy Charter School is under investigation for criminal sexual conduct with a student.
Marshall Academy has around 200 students in grades K-12 and only 18 teachers listed on its website.
Detectives tell Newschannel 3 that the investigation began at the end of February when a couple of adults in the community who are not employees of the school became aware of, and reported, what they believe is an inappropriate relationship between a 17-year-old girl and a male teacher.
Investigators are not releasing the identity of the teacher at the center of the investigation, but Newschannel 3 has confirmed that he was put on leave from the school since the allegations surfaced.
Newschannel 3 spoke to several parents with children in the school. They told us that the school has not relayed any information about the allegations, the investigation or even that a teacher was put on leave.
A teacher at the school did help Newschannel 3 get in contact with the school’s principal and superintendent, Brent Swan, over the phone. Swan never spoke directly with Newswchannel 3 but did inform us through the teacher that he has been instructed not to comment on the investigation.
Detectives say they are still waiting on forensic analysis of phones and computers; however the investigation has been submitted to the Calhoun County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
Investigators say at this point they have no reason to believe there are any other victims.
Newschannel 3 will provide updates as information becomes available.
