State unemployment 'glitch' leaves thousands shut out
BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A 'glitch' in the state's unemployment system, has left thousands shut out Thursday.
'Michigan Works!' leaders tell Newschannel 3, it was supposed to be up and running by Tuesday. Today, the online system has 'loading' issues and the phone system was completely shut down Thursday afternoon.
The Director of Employment Services at 'Michigan Works!' in Battle Creek says, to pack some extra patience, and keep trying.
"You may have to call 6,7 times, sometimes people call for a half-hour it's just not as efficient," said Bruce Camburn, Michigan Works! Battle Creek.
"They're upgrading, they're doing the best they can, they'll have complete soon and just keep trying," said Camburn.
For Dale Bickings, he said the Michigan Works! facility in Kalamazoo was overwhelmed and he was turned away.
He says he wants to know why he didn't get his unemployment benefits after he got confirmation on the phone Tuesday.
"And said it would be there next business day and never showed up," said Dale Bickings, Unemployed.
"That means I wait and suffer get hold someone find out where my money is at," said Bickings.
"There are days where if you miss a deadline there's a make up day," said Camburn.
Bickings says he'll be okay without his unemployment money for a few days, but plans to get up early tomorrow to find out how to make it right.
"You're going to get through eventually it's just when it's down like this people start to panic a little, bit they need their checks," said Camburn.
