Letting out the dog turns into two hour rescue mission

PENN HILLS, Pa. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Letting the dog out turned into an all-out rescue mission, complete with an entire crew of firefighters.

The 4-year-old dachshund, named Precious, somehow got stuck in a groundhog hole in Penn Hills, Pennsylvania.

Her owner could hear her, but the dog was so far in, she couldn't hear her--so she called for help.

The response was overwhelming, as 15 volunteer firefighters rushed to help.

"The difficult part was digging away the dirt and everything and trying not to collapse the hole and cut off her air, you know," explained Penn Hills Fire Chief Randy Dolton.

They even had oxygen and a camera from the sewage department on standby.

Two hours later, Precious was back in her owner's arms, unharmed.
