Boy who survived sand dune collapse to meet rescuers
MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A little boy who survived being swallowed by a sand dune will get to meet his rescuers this week.
6-year-old Nathan Woessner was on a camping vacation with his family in Michigan City, Indiana, in July, when he went out for a walk with a friend on the Indiana dunes.
Suddenly a sinkhole swallowed the boy up.
Nathan was trapped 11 feet under the sinkhole for three hours when rescuers finally found him.
His lungs were clogged with sand, and he spent several days in critical condition in the ICU, but he made an amazing recovery.
The only evidence left of what happened is a little cough.
On Wednesday, Nathan and his family are going back to Indiana to meet the people who saved his life.
