NFL reaches settlement over concussion lawsuits
(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The NFL has reached an agreement to settle lawsuits from thousands of former players who developed dementia or other concussion-related health problems.
The $765-million deal will fund health screenings and medical compensation for players, along with providing money for research.
The proposed settlement comes just days before the start of the season and was announced after two months of court-ordered mediation and is subject to approval by a federal judge who is expected to rule on it in two or three months.
The lawsuits accuse the league of hiding known risks of concussions.
