Gay couple told to move to back of bus
ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A gay couple is speaking out after a bus driver told them to move to the back of the bus because they were holding hands.
"I saw him look at us, look down at his hands and he looked so angry. He just blurted out at me, he goes, 'okay if you're going to do that you're going to the back of the bus," said Ron McCoy.
Ron McCoy says the incident happened as he and his partner were taking a shuttle bus from an airport in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
McCoy says they didn't want to cause problems so they followed the driver's order to move to the back of the bus.
Another passenger stepped in.
"I told the bus driver that I was completely appalled that anybody would be treated this way," said the passenger.
McCoy and his partner have now filed a complaint with the ACLU. The bus company says the driver was inappropriate and got "carried away."
The company's also now requiring all of its drivers take sensitivity training.
