Officers hand out Doritos at Hemp-Fest
SEATTLE, Wash. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Police in Seattle were trying to keep the peace this weekend during a Hemp-Fest downtown not by making arrests, but by making sure everyone had enough snacks to cure the munchies.
Officers handed out bags of Doritos with special labels on them laying on Washington state's new recreational marijuana law.
The labels said don't sell pot, smoke it in public or drive high, but do listen to Dark Side of the Moon at a reasonable volume.
"We're not here to feed folks. This is about the police department providing public education," said Sgt. Sean Whitcomb of the Seattle Police Dept.
All the officers who took part volunteered for the event and no public funds were used to buy the Doritos.
Despite the creative attempt at getting the word out some officers say it was an embarrassment for the department.
