Montana judge refuses to step down
MONTANA (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A Montana judge is standing his ground under mounting pressure for him to resign.
Hundreds of protestors gathered outside the Billings courthouse Thursday, demanding judge "G" Todd Baugh leave the bench.
This comes after Baugh gave a teacher a 30-day sentence for raping a teenage student who later committed suicide.
Even though the teacher was 49-years-old and the girl was only 14, Baugh said she was quote "older than her chronological age" and that she was "as much in control of the situation" as he was.
His comments, along with the light sentence for the teacher, outraged many in that community, especially the victim's mother.
She spoke with CNN's Erin Burnett to voice her frustrations.
Reporter: What most upsets you about this 30-day sentence?
It discourages other kids from coming forward. If they come forward, what's going to happen? Nothing, said Auliea Hanlon, the victims mother.
Judge Baugh did issue an apology, but many say that's not good enough.
He says he will not resign.
