Charges possible after passenger tries to open plane’s exit
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Charges could be filed Tuesday against an airline passenger who officials say tried to open the emergency exits while in flight.
The Air-Tran plane made an emergency landing in Memphis. It was travelling from Baltimore to Austin, Texas.
Officials say at some point the man tried to open up the exits at the back of the airplane.
Flight attendants were able to pull him back until they could land.
The man was then escorted off the plane, but airport officials say by that time he had calmed down.
"Our officers never observed the passenger being unruly. He was very cooperative the entire time that our officers were on the aircraft," said John Greaud of the Memphis Shelby County Airport Authority.
The FBI has been called in.
Right now there's no word on why the man may have tried to open the doors.
