Governor asks for help battling wildfire
IDAHO (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The Governor of Idaho is calling out the National Guard to help with a massive wildfire.
More than a hundred thousand acres has been charred already and more than 2,300 homes have been evacuated near the resort communities of Ketchum and Sun Valley.
The fire was sparked nearly two weeks ago and is only nine-percent contained.
Crews on the scene are optimistic they're getting the upper hand on the flames and guard members say they're ready to help.
"That's why I joined the National Guard, to help people in times of need this just gives me that opportunity," said Brian Seevaher of the National Guard. "It gives you a feeling of purpose drive, wingmen that you want to help out and then you have you country you want help out and the state you want to help out."
The guard will be assisting deputies, handling checkpoint security, and will be conducting rolling patrols in the evacuated areas to make sure no looting takes place.
